Impact

Regarding the expected impacts mentioned in the call, the proposed project addresses each of the five points, as follows:

  1. We address energy consumption not only related to the devices, but also to the network infrastructure and data traffic. Very important, we also investigate the role of control traffic, which represents an important share of the total traffic in mobile networks.
  2. We give special attention to the dissemination of our results towards policy-makers and end users, through specific project tasks and deliverables oriented towards them.
  3. The project partners all have backgrounds in mobile networks, but cover different expertise, obviously on ICT, but also on energy measurement, metrology and behavior modelling. Moreover, having access to accurate mobile network energy consumption models, provided by our project, will foster new ideas in related fields.
  4. The project involves a Canadian partner and a partner from a widening country.
  5. Two of the PIs are considered as “young researchers” by the funding agencies, and two of the partners would be first-time participants to a CHIST-ERA project.
